Ah, so I see you've come to visit Harriman. Really, its a very nice place to live.. If you're a house pet or a human, that is. For us strays, life is hard. Humans drive us away from even their scraps, apparently we aren't good enough for them. A few packs have formed, and that's the best way to survive if you want my opinion. Other dogs to take care of you if you're sick. Of course, if you think living alone is the best way to go, you could always do that. You could even join a gang, though they aren't as tightly knit as a pack.
Welcome to HURRICANE! We are a stray dog with an easy to fill out application and a word limit of 100. If you're interested in joining, we would be happy to have you!
4.27.11.
I have finished the revamp and put up an activity check, so please respond. I'm gonna start advertising soon. Guests: Please don't be put off by our lack of activity, we are working on it.
I have put the site into MM to update and revamp it. I should be finished by tomorrow, or Friday at the latest. When I have finished, there will be an activity check, and if pack leaders don't respond, you will have a chance to grab a pack land. All threads will be moved the archives, but you may keep your current characters and their relationships. You'll just have to make new threads, is all :D. I hope to see everyone return soon!
SUMMER.
The season here in Harriman is Summer, and let me tell you it is a hot one. Dogs are doing everything they can just to live through it. A drought has struck the city, and the only places to get water are the pond in the park and the swimming hole. Dogs try not to exert themselves too much, because it would be easy to fall over dead from a heat stroke.
With the terrible heat, pups don't stand much of a chance this season, and not many will live. The highs are in the hundreds and the lows are in the eighties.

Most of the cities restaurants are located on one road. This is called 'Restaurant Row'. This is great place for strays to find something to eat. They can get in the dumpsters behind the restaurants, and sometimes kind people will feed them scraps. This is also a very dangerous place to strays. Cars are always on the roads, making them treacherous to cross. Not only that, but not all people are kind. This is a place where dog catchers are often found.
Not very many people are located inside the station, which makes it a great place for strays to get out of the weather. Especially at night, because the station closes at eight o' clock sharp. The benches aren't the most comfortable thing to sleep on, but it beats being out in the rain. The bus station is located in the "bad" part of town, so you'll be hard pressed to find a dog catcher or authority figure here.
This is a very large park located in the center of the city. It has a lake in it with some ducks and geese, but don't try to mess with them, because they're pretty mean. In the fall and winter this place is utterly abandoned. In the spring and summer, though, it is a pretty popular spot for people. People like to bring their dogs here, and many times the dogs stick up their noses to the strays.
These apartments have been in Harriman forever. A few years ago they were deemed structurally unsound, electrically unstable, and unfit to live in. Everyone was moved out, and told to find a new place to live. The dogs took advantage of it, and made it a nice place to live. Some furniture is still left in the apartments, and it makes for a comfortable place to sleep. The roof leaks, and the floor can give way under a heavy dog, but its a good place to stay.
This is where people go to get rid of their larger trash. Couches, cars, beds, and the like can be found here. Shelter can be taken in the piles of garbage, but it isn't the best smelling place. The couches and stuff are ragged, torn, and sometimes springs have torn up through the cushions or mattresses. In any case, many dogs like to come here.
Here is where the dead come to rest. It is normally abandoned unless a funeral is going on. It's a very big place, with lots of tombstones and a creepy feel. Nevertheless, its a good place to go if you don't want to be around people or other dogs. Many darker dogs make their home here.
This forest is located on the southern most part of the city. Some dogs like to make their home here, but many stay away from the area due to other wild animals. Wolf packs don't take kindly to the dog coming on to their territory. Not only are there wolves, but there are bears, coyotes, and other nasty predators. This isn't a place to take young pups.
In the summer this is a popular area for teenagers. In the colder seasons, though, it's hard to find anybody here. Many dogs like to come here to search for scraps. Not only that, but it's a good place to get some water. There is also a shed located not too far from the swimming hole that dogs like to take shelter in. The swimming hole is close enough to Harriman that wild animals aren't normally found here.
Before the world became industrialized, this farm was a very important source of income for the people who lived there and for the entire time. The farm is very large, including fields, a barn, a chicken coop, and a farm house. The house and the chicken coop have fallen in, but the barn is a good place to live.
Pretty deep in the forest is a small waterfall that runs into a small river. The river runs down to the swimming hole. The falls are hard to get to for humans, but their pretty easy to access for dogs. Beware, though, the wolves claim this area as their own and won't hesitate to kill trespassers.
Located not far from the city is a beautiful meadow. Humans like to come here in the spring and summer to have picnics, or go on dates. When humans aren't around, sometimes rabbits can be caught for food. The wolves steer clear of this place, so its pretty safe when people aren't around.
Here you can post your artwork, or apply for a studio. Remember, do not claim anything as your own that doesn't belong to you. You may run your graphics shop if you wish.
